Al-Awwal
المعنى · Meaning
الذي ليس قبله شيء
The First, The One whose Existence is without a beginning.
الشرح والدلالة · Explanation
الأول هو السابق على كل شيء، ليس قبله شيء.
Al-Awwal means 'The First' or 'The Eternal without Beginning'. It signifies that Allah is the One who existed before all creation, before time, before any beginning. There was nothing before Him, and He has no beginning. His existence is eternal and precedes everything. He is the first in every sense—first in existence, first in rank, first in every attribute. Quran References: 'He is the First (Al-Awwal) and the Last, the Ascendant and the Intimate' (57:3). Spiritual Significance: Al-Awwal reminds us that Allah is the source of all existence. Everything that exists came from Him, and He was there before everything. Benefit: Reciting Al-Awwal strengthens the understanding of Allah's eternal existence, increases certainty in faith, and brings comfort knowing that the eternal One is in control.
